Cashmere comes from an ultra-fine undercoat that develops close to the roots of a goat’s hair. This delicate layer grows during the harsh winter months to protect the animal from extreme cold and naturally sheds when temperatures rise in spring.
Exceptionally rare, cashmere accounts for only about 0.2% of the world’s animal fiber production. Due to its outstanding quality and remarkable characteristics, it is often referred to as the “jewel of fibers” and prized as “soft gold.”

The finest cashmere fibers are gently gathered during the spring molting season, when the Capra Hircus goat naturally sheds its soft winter undercoat. This delicate process is carried out entirely by hand and is completely harmless to the animals.
For every Aurélien cashmere sweater, the precious undercoat of four goats is carefully combed by hand — a testament to the rarity, craftsmanship, and dedication behind each piece.
